Boardhawk Podcast episode 21: A conversation with DCTA President Rob Gould

It’s after Labor Day, which means campaign season is now in full swing. It’s bound to be a lively one in Denver, with four competitive school board races in play.

As a service to our listeners, Boardhawk decided to reach out to the two school board election axes of influence — The Denver Classroom Teachers Association and Denver Families Action — to learn more about their process and criteria for endorsing candidates, as well as their funding sources and strategies.

We begin this two-part series with Rob Gould, president of the DCTA. Kudos to Gould for coming on the podcast, given Boardhawk’s frequent criticism of DCTA positions and actions. We fervently hope that incumbent school board members running for reelection will follow Gould’s example and come on the podcast. To date, they have rebuffed our overtures.

Gould is a special education teacher with more than 23 years of experience, who has been president of the Denver Classroom Teachers Association since 2021. Before becoming DCTA president, Rob served as the union’s lead negotiator during significant labor actions, including the 2018 Denver teachers’ strike.

Stay tuned for an interview with Clarence Burton Jr. CEO of Denver Families Action.
