Barbara is founder of Colorado Children’s Campaign, former Colorado lieutenant governor, and a two-term DPS at-large board member.
She served on the board during the period when it shifted from a more reform-oriented majority to the more DCTA-friendly majority. She was the lone dissenting vote in 2020 against the hiring of Alex Marrero as superintendent. She was also on the board as the current form of policy governance was implemented, and during the censure of board member Auon’tai Anderson.
Given the likely censure of board member John Youngquist next month, under a very different set of circumstances, it seemed a good time to get O’Brien’s perspective on a host of issues. Her long involvement with children’s issues, politics, and DPS makes her an ideal guest for this last podcast (barring urgent breaking news) before Tuesday’s election.
