Theresa Peña first played a pivotal role in Denver Public Schools as a child, when she and her brother, Craig, were named a s plaintiffs in the Keyes case, which made it all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court and brought busing for integration to DPS in the early 1970s.
Peña later went on to serve eight years on the Denver school board (2003-11), four of them as president. She was a member of the board that hired Michael Bennet as superintendent, and was president when Bennet’ successor, Tom Boasberg, was hired.
We invited Peña on to discuss the upcoming election, the state of DPS, current and past boards, and the current administration, because she unflinchingly expresses well-informed opinions, and has the credentials to back those opinions up with deep knowledge and relevant data.
