On December 8, health care provider Kaiser Permanente sent a letter to the roughly 3,400 Denver Public Schools employees who receive its services informing then that DPS was dropping Kaiser as a provider.
Needless to say this caused a huge uproar. Kaiser is a closed system, unlike other insurers (Anthem, United, etc), so losing Kaiser means losing your entire roster of healthcare providers. How and why might this happen?
DPS officials stress than no final decision has been made, and that the Board of Education will take up the issue at its Feb. 19 meeting. But news of the potentialĀ change has cfreated high levels of angst amongĀ district employees and their families.
Our guest today is Rob Gould, president of the Denver Classroom Teachers Association. We delve deeply into this issue with Gould, whose members stand to bear the brunt of the possible consequences.
