Boardhawk will liveblog election night here

To some degree, all elections are pivotal, but the Nov. 7 Denver school board election for three of seven seats will be more pivotal than most.

That’s why we will be liveblogging election results and reactions here, providing results and reactions as soon as the polls close and the first results are posted just after 7 p.m. Tuesday.

You can see our live feed on the right of this post. It will update automatically as we add new material.

The self-proclaimed “union super-majority” board will see at least one new face, as Vice-President Auon’tai Anderson decided to seek higher office and not run for reelection for his citywide seat. In southeast Denver, incumbent Scott Baldermann, strongly backed by the Denver Classroom Teachers Association, is up against challenger Kimberlee Sia, who has behind her the money and organizing power of Denver Families for Public Schools and its political arm, Denver Families Action.

And in north Denver, union-backed Charmaine Lindsay, who was appointed to fill a vacancy two year ago, is running against Marlene de la Rosa, also backed by the Denver Families groups.

The greatest amount of attention has been focused on the at-large race for Anderson’s open seat. Former Denver Public Schools teacher, principal, and district administrator John Youngquist is battling for the seat against Kwame Spearman, the son of a longtime DPS teacher and administrator, and a businessman best known for running the Tattered Cover bookstore chain in recent years.

Youngquist is backed by Denver Families, Spearman by the DCTA.

We will be updating this post regularly on election night and even during the hours leading up to the 7 p.m. poll closure. The embedded liveblog means you will not have to refresh this page to get our latest updates.

Stay tuned!
