Mariana del Hierro is a Denver Public Schools parent and nonprofit executive running for the District 2 seat on the Denver school board, representing southwest Denver.
The seat is currently held by Xóchitl Gaytán, who has not yet filed paperwork to run for reelection. The deadline is August 29.
del Hierro was raised on the Texas-Mexico border. Neither of her parents completed elementary school and she is a first-generation college graduate. She is Executive Director of Re:Vision, a nationally recognized nonprofit tackling food insecurity and economic injustice in Southwest Denver. She also has a background in public health.
In this podcast episode, del Hierro discusses with hosts Alexis Menocal Harrigan and Alan Gottlieb how her role as a parent of a Latino DPS student drives her passion to serve on the school board; her views on the state of the district’s academic performance; and her plans to be accessible to the community should she be elected.
